King George whiting are comparatively large compared to other
whiting species. They have a long body decorated with a pattern
of small brown spots in wavy lines, and a pointed snout. The
upper body is pale grey, brown or olive and the belly white.
Commercial and recreational fishers target this species and
it is subject to heavy fishing pressure. In their first few
years they live mainly in shallow seagrasses and eat small crustaceans.
Adults live in more exposed areas and feed over sand.
